Hey Group Practice listeners! In this episode, I talk with Dr. Maelissa Hall about how to make sure you're getting quality notes from your staff.

Things we discuss in this episode:

  1. Ways to train new therapists on notes
  2. How to check up on notes and how this is different for licensed versus non-licensed therapists
  3. Ways to provide ongoing training for your staff
  4. Privacy concerns to consider for independent contractors

Get to know Maelissa:

Hey Group Practice listeners! Today I'm doing another AMA (Ask Me Anything) where I'll be answering questions regarding hiring & onboarding.

Things to keep in mind during the hiring process:

  1. Your vision + mission for your group practice
  2. Looking for strengths that compliment rather than reflect your own
  3. Personality & your office dynamic

How to make the most of your onboarding process:

  1. Have an in-depth training period
  2. Ongoing & consistent supervision
  3. Pay for or suggest outside training

How to compete with larger groups who can offer more to their employees:

  1. Focus on the environment + culture
  2. Being able to provide time and attention larger group owners can't
  3. Loyal & close-knit staff community
  4. Find & highlight your non-financial incentives

When should you continue hiring?

  1. Wait until clinicians are 50% full to start looking
  2. When your clinicians are about 75% full, start hiring

Hey Group Practice listeners! Today I'm doing another AMA (Ask Me Anything) where I'll be answering the question:

"What are practice owner life hacks?"

The five hacks I cover are:

  1. Schedule regular time in your calendar to meet with staff & batch your time
  2. Getting a support group of 1-3 other practice owners
  3. Delegating sooner rather than later
  4. Use a project management system like Trello to organize tasks
  5. Organize your time going backwards
